Every year on March 31st, the world marks Trans Day of Visibility (TDoV) a day dedicated to celebrating the lives, contributions, and resilience of trans and nonbinary people around the globe.
Founded in 2009 by activist Rachel Crandall-Crocker, TDoV was created in response to the fact that most trans-focused days were centred on mourning, such as the Trans Day of Remembrance. This day, instead, is a celebration of existence, of joy, and of the countless trans people who live and thrive, often against immense odds.
Here at GlitterBeam, we believe visibility is more than just being seen. Its about being respected, represented, and protected. And today, we stand proudly with the trans community not just in solidarity, but in celebration.
For many trans people, simply existing in public spaces can be an act of bravery. According to Stonewall UK, two in five trans people have experienced a hate crime or incident because of their gender identity in the past year. And nearly half have avoided certain streets or areas due to fear of harassment.
But visibility also brings hope. It paves the way for better representation, stronger policies, and more inclusive conversations. When trans people are visible in media, education, politics, and culture, the world becomes a little safer and a lot more human.
To mark Trans Day of Visibility, well be dedicating a special edition of Rainbow GlitterBeams flagship LGBTQ+ show airing from 10am to 1pm on Monday.
