‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’ in Norwich

today26th March 2025

Background

Now! Thats Productions has secured the rights to cult hit Hedwig and the Angry Inch which will play at the Norwich Puppet Theatre April 1st – 5th 2025, which has been granted with special permission of writer John Cameron Mitchell and the team at Broadway Licensing!

This is the first time the show has been performed in the East of England – and alongside this we will also be attributing to a legacy of firsts by having the first female actor in both the East of England and UK to play both the titular role of Hedwig and the supporting role of Yitzhak.

‘We’re ecstatic to be bringing this landmark LGBTQ+ Broadway musical to the stage, in a production that is rarely given permission to be performed. We are incredibly proud to have all three producers of the show (who are also local drag stars) take it in turn to play the titular role – Will Power (Lauren Bryant) Pfizer Manelli (Nathan Harrod) & Knuckle Sandwich (Matthew Squance)’

Notably as mentioned above, Lauren Bryant will also be playing the supporting role of Yitzhak on all other shows where she doesn’t appear as Hedwig, which will only be the third publicised time a cis-woman actor will have played both the role of Yitzhak and Hedwig simultaneously during a run of this show AND the titular role of Hedwig – (other actors to have done this being Lena Rocker Hall & Ally Sheedy). This is not only an East of England first – but a UK first. Lauren is a full time performer and producer and has built her career working here locally based in Norwich.

This darkly humorous story of self love, powered by a four piece live band of local musicians and epic rock inspired music and hard-hitting lyrics explores gender identity, acceptance and the freedom to be whoever you want to be.

Now! That’s… Productions! is a sister theatre company to the pre-existing NOW! That’s What I Call…DRAG!” (East Anglians biggest drag cabaret show which has toured month on month since 2022) and Now! Thats Panto! (a professional panto company specialising in adult pantomimes having just completed our second sell out year).

The show will also be fundraising for Norwich Pride at all shows with collection buckets.

‘As NOW! We have been producing shows across the East of England since the start of 2022, first debuting in April 2022 and creating our first adult pantomime in December 2023. Lauren and Matt have produced over 100 cabaret shows to date and worked with some of the top UK drag/cabaret acts in our shows. We highlight various styles of drag in our cabaret show; platforming old-school live vocalists, stand-up comedians, dance acts, performance artists and lip sync acts. We have provided paid work for well over 100 actors and drag acts since our debut.’
