Some of the artists are not new to the Eurovision public: Achille Lauro (San Marino 2022), Francesco Gabbani (2017), Francesca Michielin (2016)

The winner of the Sanremo Music Festival (which GlitterBeam will follow closely, like we do every year) will have the chance to go to Basel, in Switzerland, for the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest. It’s important to remind everyone that the Sanremo Music Festival it’s not strictly a national selection, but a Festival of its own. RAI, the Italian Broadcaster, will ask the Sanremo’s winner to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest, but the artist will need to accept the offer. And in the past there have been cases of artists refusing to go (the group STADIO won in 2016, refusing to go to the Eurovision Song Contest. The Broadcaster therefore chosen Francesca Michielin, runner up in Sanremo that year, to represent the country).

The Sanremo Music Festival is a huge event in Italy, and it last 5 nights. Here’s the breakdown of the 5 nights, as perfectly summarised by our friends at Eurovoix

Night One Tuesday 11/02/2025

The 30 competing artists will have the chance to present their song. All the songs will be voted only by a jury composed by professional journalists from television and web outlets. RAI will then proceed to announce the top 5 songs that received the most votes, in a random order.

Night Two Wednesday 12/02/2025

The first half of the competing artists will perform their entries again. This time, the songs will be voted by the public at home (50% of the result) and by a jury made up of radio broadcasters (50% of the result). RAI will then proceed to announce the top 5 songs that received the most votes that night, in a random order.

Night Three Thursday 13/02/2025

The second half of the competing artists will perform their entries again. As with the previous night the songs will be voted by the public from home (50% of the result) and by a jury made up of radio broadcasters (50% of the result). RAI will then proceed to announce the top 5 songs that received the most votes that night, in a random order.

Night Four Friday 14/02/2025

Every act will perform a cover of another song, be it in Italian or in English (or any other foreign language). The competing artists will also have the opportunity to perform it with a guest artist, not competing in this years edition of the Festival.

The songs will be voted by the public from home (34% of the result), by the professional jury of journalists (33% of the result), and by the professional jury of radio broadcasters (33% of the result). The artist that has received the largest number of votes will be announced as the winner of the fourth night. This night will not influence the ranking of the other nights.

Night Five Saturday 15/02/2025

All of the artists will return and perform their songs again. These will be voted by the public from home only: the average between the new ranking and the previous one will determine the final definitive ranking. The top 5 songs will have the chance to perform again and, this time, they will be voted by by the public from home (34% of the result), by the professional jury of journalists (33% of the result), and by the professional jury of radio broadcasters (33% of the result). The song that received the most votes will then be announced as the winner of Sanremo 2025.

In addition to this, on night two, and night three, 4 Nuove Proposte (young artists) will present their songs to the public. One artist per night will advance to the final, on night 4, where a jury composed by televote (34%), journalists (33%) and radio broadcasters (33%) will determine the winner of the Nuove Proposte category.

Last year Italy was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest by the 2024 Sanremo winner ANGELINA MANGO with ‘La Noia’, ended at 7th place with 268 points.
