West London Queer Project (WLQP) is excited to announce its inaugural fundraising event, marking a major milestone in its efforts to support and empower the LGBTQ+ community. The event will take place on Thursday 24 October at The Broadcaster in White City, and promises to be a night of community celebration, unity, and entertainment.
The evening, sponsored by DIVA Magazine, will feature inspiring keynote speakers, including LGBTQ+ Human Rights Defender, Peter Tatchell, a comedy/drag show, and a DJ to set the tone for an unforgettable night. Guests will be greeted with a complimentary drink and delicious canapes upon arrival.
WLQP was founded with the mission to connect, support, and give voice to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and other sexual and gender-identifying (LGBTQ+) individuals in West London. Since its inception, in just four years the organisation has hosted over 600 inclusive events, creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive space for the LGBTQ+ community. 80% have been free to attend while others were subsidised through funding from organisations such as The National Lottery, Sport England, and several local councils.
WLQP has outlined a comprehensive five-year strategy that focuses on expanding its services into neighbouring boroughs, including Richmond, Hillingdon, Harrow, and Kensington & Chelsea. The organisation also plans to hire two key roles – a Funding & Partnerships Manager and a Community Engagement Officer – to strengthen its infrastructure and ensure continued impact.
This strategy is centred on four key pillars:
As a non-profit community interest company, WLQP relies on external funding to continue its work. In order to secure long-term financial stability, the organisation aims to raise 40,000 by the end of 2024. This inaugural fundraiser aims to collect 20,000, with the remainder to be raised through a crowdfunding campaign.
The funds raised will allow WLQP to continue its mission of advocacy, community-building, and providing essential services to the LGBTQ+ population in West London. The organisation invites supporters to contribute, whether through donations or by attending the event, to help ensure its growth and success for years to come.
